ソ連からの独立後にウズベキスタンで復活した,イスラームの伝統に則った地域共同体=マハッラ。新国家建設に際してマハッラが果たす役割と課題を,法令,公文書,フィールドワークから探る。具体的には,帝政ロシア以前から現在までのマハッラとその教育的側面の歴史的変遷を明らかにするとともに、独立後のマハッラの構造と教育的活動の実態を社会教育学における地域教育活動の観点から解明する。また、マハッラでの子どもの社会化と文化継承について明らかにし、学校教育におけるマハッラに関する教育についても解明する。
