Introduction

This book is the full Proceedings of the French-Japanese seminar on Quantum Properties of Low-Dimensional Antiferromagnets which was held on November 21-23, 2001 in Fukuoka, Japan. New developments in a currently active field on quantum spin chains and the related systems are discussed by prominent theoretical, experimental and material scientists from both countries. The contents cover the most current topics which range from the basic fundamentals to the state of the art in the field entitled above; the experimental and theoretical studies on the magnetic phase transitions, quantum effects of one-and two-dimensional antiferromagnets, geometrically frustrated systems and molecular magnets and so on.
