Author

RICHARD BOWRING is Professor of JAnanese Studies at the University of Cambridge and the author of The Diary of Lady Murasaki (Penguin Classics, 1996) among other studies.
NOEL J. PINNINGTON is Assistant Professor of Pre-modern Japanese Literature at the University of Arizona and author of "Invented Origins: Muromachi interpretations of Okina Sarugaku" (BSOAS, 61.3, 1998) among other studies.
RICHARD J. SMITH is Rupp Professor of Humanities, Professor of History and Director of Asian Studies at Rice University. His most recent book is Chinese Maps: Images of "All Under Heaven"(Oxford University Press, 1996).
HITOMI TONOMURA is Associate Professor of Japanese History and Women's Studies at the University of Michigan and editor of Women and Class in Japanese History, (University of Michigan Center for Japanese Studies, 1999) among other studies.
MARNIE ANDERSON is a Ph D candidate in Histotory and Women's Studies at the University of Michigan. Her special interest is in Meiji-Taisho gender history.
SEIICHI MAKINO is Professor of Japanese & Linguistics and Director of the Japanese Language Program at Princeton University. He is authpr of Uchi to Soto no Gengo-Bunka-Gaku: Bunpoo Bunka de Kiru (Tokyo:ALC1, 1996) among other studies.
TOSHIYUKI KONO is Professor of Law, especially Private Internarional Law, at Kyushu University and the editor/author of The Globalizarion and Law (Kluwer Law Internarional, 2000) among other studies.
NOBUO OKAWARA is Professor of Political Studies at Kyushu University and co-author of Japan's National Security: Structures, Norms and Policy Responses in a Changing World (Cornell University East Asia Program, 1993) among other studies.
